I spent the day yesterday at the first Central Florida Blogger Conference (#CFLBlogCon) hosted by the very talented Bess Auer with Central Florida Top 5. Not only was she the queen of hospitality, the day was very well organized and planned with an equal balance between learning and networking.
I had the honor of being one of the guest speakers, but I have to say the most memorable part of the day was meeting fellow bloggers … and of course … the FOOD!
Let’s talk first about the people. Central Florida has an AMAZING community of bloggers from all different genres including travel, food, entertainment, fitness and fashion.
It was great to catch up with Cheryl and Lisa of What Boundaries who are working on an exciting new book, Will Work For Travel. I love this idea as I find so many blogs on how to “sell it all, quit your job and become a nomad,” but not a lot of good advice for extended travel through working and volunteering abroad. They’re going to share their knowledge of how to get the best of both worlds; to have a home, a job, and travel a lot too! I also had some fun spending time with Ben and Rori and comparing Florida cocktails with them. There were so many great local Orlando Blogs represented at this conference, that I’ve got a list at the end of the post that I’m making sure are on my RSS reader, and I think you should too!
Of course, I would be remiss without talking about the FOOD! There were two wonderful foodie highlights to this convention. First, was the food truck. Lunch was gourmet tasty treats served from Big Wheel Provisions. Everything from soft shell crab sandwiches and blueberry soda to chicken skewers drizzled in curry.
If you’re not familiar with the food truck phenomenon, it’s basically gourmet tapas style food on wheels that can be served anywhere. You can “chase their wheels” on Twitter at @BigWheelTruck, or check with the Orlando Food Truck Expert at The Daily City to find out when and where you can catch the next Orlando Food Truck Bazaar. (I can’t WAIT to attend one of these!!!)
The second foodie highlight for me was the post-conference networking at Eden Bar. Located at the Enzian, this is one of my favorite date-night locations to grab some gourmet bites and watch an indie or foreign film. On this day, however, it was all about the refreshments available to cool us off on this hot summer day. Eden Bar does an excellent job with coming up with creative mixes that incorporate local or seasonal ingredients. Today’s cold beverage of choice for me? The “citrus crush,” a refreshing mix of Florida orange flavored vodka, mint and club soda. I found the recipe from Kara’s blog on Visit Florida and it’s a great local treat! I pulled it up on my iPhone and the mixologists at Eden Bar were happy to whip it up for me. Delish.
I can’t wait to attend next year’s CFLBlogCon! In the meantime, here’s a few local Orlando blogs I’m adding to my RSS feed, and I think you should too …
And take special note of this one … SeniorsWalkingAcrossAmerica.Blogspot.com. A 76 year old blogger, he’s been walking from Peace Arch in Washington State to Key West, Florida. WOW!
