FRESH CITRUS SALSA – INGREDIENTS
- Large Oranges
- Red Onion
- Cilantro
- Chili Lime Seasoning (Like Tajin)
- Salt + Pepper
As an alternative, you could also make this with pineapple and/or mango too!
HOW TO MAKE CITRUS SALSA
Start by peeling the oranges. Place an orange on a cutting board with the navel/dimple parallel to the cutting board. Using a sharp knife, cut about a quarter to a half an inch off the top and bottom of the orange.
Next, stand the orange up so the flat bottom is on the cutting board. Carefully cut away the orange peel and white pith, following the contour of the orange.
Cut the oranges in half along the segments, and then again in quarters and then sixths until you have quarter inch pieces of orange.
Next, peel away any dry skin off the onion. Then cut the onion in half, slicing downwards through the root.
Lay half the onion on the cutting board, flat side down. Then, carefully using a sharp knife, slice the onion horizontally, using the lines along the onion as your guide, keeping the root intact. Finally, slice downwards across these horizontal cuts to dice.
Rinse the cilantro and pat dry with a paper towel. Pick cilantro leaves from stems. You’ll want about a half cup of cilantro leaves.
Add the diced orange, onion, cilantro, and any extra orange juice on the cutting board to a small mixing bowl. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of chili lime seasoning. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss all the ingredients together until well mixed.
Serve citrus salsa along side your favorite tacos or tortilla chips.
🌶 Want it a bit spicier? Add a 1/2 teaspoon (or more to your liking) of cayenne or chili pepper!
