- vanilla extract

Note: Some stores sell the marshmallow charms from Lucky Charms cereal. But if you can’t find thme, you’ll want to separate some marshmallows from the cereal and set them aside for topping.
How To Make Rice Krispie Treats With Lucky Charms
Prep: Gather together a saucepan, spoon, 9×13 pan, parchment paper, knife, and cutting board. Line the 9×13 pan with parchment paper. Tip: Let a bit of parchment paper overhang the sides of the pan to make it easy to lift out the rice krispie treats with lucky charms once they’re set.
Melt the Butter and Marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and marshmallows over low heat. Keep an eye on it – you want it melted, not burned. Stir continuously until they’re completely melted and smooth.
Add the Vanilla: Once marshmallows are melted, stir in the salt and vanilla.
Mix in the Cereal: Now comes the fun part – adding in the Lucky Charms and Rice Krisipes cereals. Stir it all together until the cereal is evenly coated in that gooey, marshmallowy goodness.
Press into Pan: Grab the prepped 9×13-inch baking pan and press the mixture evenly into it. Pro tip: lightly grease your hands or use a piece of wax paper to press down the mixture – it’s sticky business! Top with additional Lucky Charms marshmallows for colorful garnish.
Let Them Set: Pop the pan into the fridge and let it chill for about 30 minutes to an hour. This will help the treats firm up so you can slice them into perfectly magical squares.
Slice and Serve: Once your treats have had time to set, take them out of the fridge and slice them into squares. Don’t worry if they’re not perfectly uniform – that’s part of the charm! Serve them up on a platter and watch as smiles light up faces.
Recipe Tips for Success:
- Don’t Overcook: When melting the butter and marshmallows, be sure to keep the heat low and stir continuously. You want them melted and smooth, not burnt!
- Be Gentle: When folding in the marshmallow bits, be gentle to avoid crushing them. You want to keep those colorful pops intact for maximum whimsy.
- Chill Out: Letting the treats chill in the fridge is crucial for them to set properly. It might be tempting to dig in right away, but trust me – the wait is worth it!
- Storage: Treats can be stored in an air-tight container for up to 4 days.

- Cover and allow to set for at least one hour. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- Treats can be stored in an air-tight container for up to 4 days.
- To prevent sticking, use a piece of parchment paper placed on top of the mixture to press and smooth into an even layer. Be sure to not press mixture too firmly, doing so will make a more dense, harder treat. If using your hand to press in the mixture, butter fingertips or spray with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Butter- Salted butter can be used in place of unsalted butter, omit salt if using salted butter.
- Marshmallows- 12 ounces of large marshmallows can be used in place of mini. It is best to use fresh marshmallows, old or stale marshmallows may not melt properly.
- For more pops of marshmallows in the treats, reserve 1 cup of the miniature marshmallows, and stir in when adding the cereals.
- Vanilla/salt- Vanilla and salt help bring out flavor and enhance these treats.
- Cereals- This recipe uses both Lucky Charms and Rice Krispie cereals, but all Lucky Charms, or store brand Lucky Charms, can be used if desired.
- Marshmallow Charms- Topping with additional marshmallow charms is a fun addition and adds an extra pop of color.
